Citizen science and the open decision-making are central themes in societal impact and culture of open scholarship. Both topics are timely in an era where the interaction between science and society is of critical importance. Citizen science enables broader participation in research at different stages of the research process. A well-produced research-based knowledge base supports busy decision-makers in evidence-informed leadership.
The Science Barometer 2024 by the Finnish Association for Scientific Information reveals that trust in science and scientists in Finland remains strong, although the number of sceptics is increasing. Openness plays a vital role in maintaining this trust between science and society.
Guidelines produced in 2024 on citizen science and a robust knowledge base now have translations into Swedish and English. These guidelines were developed by working groups under the Expert Panel for Culture of Open Scholarship: Citizen Science Support and Services and Interaction with Decision-makers & Open Administration
