Finnish Open Education awards 2023

Awards were received by Matleena Laakso (Tampere university), Huijataanko minua? -educational resource, (AMKIT consortium's Open educational resources working group) and the Sustainable Organising course (Hanken School of Economics).

The 2023 Open Education Influence -award was given to Matleena Laakso from the Tampere higher education community. From 2022, the Open Education Influencer -award is given to a person who has significantly promoted Finnish open education in his career.

"With her own example, Laakso has significantly promoted the culture of open education in Finnish higher education, sharing her own educational resources openly and training other teachers to share their own educational resources and practices. She has already started sharing educational resources, tips and experiences through the open blog he founded in 2011," explains the award jury.

The Annual Open Educational Resources -award was given to Kaisa Puttonen (Laurea University of Applied Sciences), Leena Elenius (Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences) and Riitta-Liisa Karjalainen (Kajaani University of Applied Sciences) for Huijataanko minua? Huijaanko minä muita? - educational resource. The open educational resource for identifying false information has been created as a collaboration of the Open Educational Resources working group of the AMKIT consortium of Finnish universities of applied sciences.

The Annual Open Educational Practice -award was given to the Sustainable Organising -course organized by Maria Ehrnström-Fuentes (Hanken School of Economics). The students of the course have created podcasts on topics related to sustainability, which have been distributed as open educational resources.

The prizes were awarded at the Open Science and Research Summer Days on June 12, 2023 at Laurea University of Applied Sciences. The recipients of the awards are selected annually from candidates suggested in an open nomination process by an award jury, which included representants of the Council of Rectors of Finnish Universities UNIFI, the Rectors’ Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences Arene, the National Union of University Students in Finland SYL, the National Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences SAMOK, the National Library, the Library of Open Educational Resources and the Open Education Expert Panel of Finnish Open Science Coordination.

The Federation of Finnish Learned Societies is responsible for coordinating the awards, with funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture.
