A Tampere university webinar on 13 November 2024 tries to find answers to questions that must be considered in large international consortium projects to reconcile the different policies, practices and requirements of different countries and universities.

Before any research project can carry out actual data collection and analysis, many agreements and permits are needed on, for example, data collection, use and sharing. In addition, thorough ethical considerations are required so that research can be carried out while respecting the legal protection of research subjects and researchers. Even within the same country, between different universities, there may be different interpretations of the General Data Protection Regulation guidelines, on applying for an ethical review and requirements for the openness of research data. In large-scale international consortium projects, the number of agreements and different interpretations continues to grow, and it takes time to coordinate the practices of different countries.

The webinar is targeted at students, researchers, research organisations’ staff members and everyone interested in the topic within the Finnish research community. The webinar will be in Teams (no recording) and those registered will get the Teams-link to the webinar later.
