Social media platforms offer researchers access to data about human behaviour, communication, communities, and societal phenomena. At the same time, the use of social media data raises important ethical, legal, data protection, and research data management considerations that often have no straightforward answers.

This webinar brings together researchers who have used social media data in their work and reflected on the ethical and practical challenges involved. The event is intended for researchers, research support professionals, and anyone interested in the responsible use of social media data in research.

Through presentations and discussions based on ongoing and completed research projects, participants will explore how researchers have addressed questions related to the collection, management, analysis, sharing, preservation, and reuse of social media data. Issues such as data protection, privacy, platform terms of service, and the ethical implications of using publicly available online content will be addressed. The webinar aims to provide practical examples, encourage the exchange of experiences, and support responsible research practices throughout the research lifecycle.

Whether you are already working with social media data or considering its use in future research, this webinar offers an opportunity to learn from real research projects, exchange experiences, and discuss emerging ethical, legal, and data management challenges in the field.
